Senior journalist Kumar Ketkar has been elected as the President of the Mumbai Press Club for the year 2016-18. He defeated Anurag Tripathi of Navbharat Times by 122 votes in a biannual elections held on July 21, 2016.

Rajesh Mascarenhas of The Economic Times elected as Chairman by defeating Vinod Jagdale of News 24 by a margin of 203 votes.

Dharmendra Jore from Mid-Day elected as the Secretary by defeating Prasad Kathe of NDTV by 189 votes. Senior journalists Ayaz Memon and  Rajanish Kakade of Associated Press elected as Vice Chairman and Joint Secretary by defeating Syed Wasim Hyder of Sahara Samay and Nandkishore Bharatiya of Navbharat Times respectively. O P Tiwari of Dainik Jagran was elected as Treasurer by defeating Varun Singh of Mid-Day.

Despite heavy rains, as many as 784 journalists cast their vote in a record turn-out.

Election was also held for the ten posts of Managing Committee members. Santosh Andhale, Mrityunjay Bose, Lata Mishra, Ashish Subhash Raje, Prakash Ganesh Akolkar, Pravin Vasant Patil, Abhimanyu Shitole, Amit Shanbaug, Ajit Joshi and Sudhakar S Kashyap were elected as members.

All the elected officer-bearers and committee members belong to 'Progressive Democratic Alliance' panel. The other panel in the fray was United Alliance For Equality.

Senior Journalist Sunil Shivdasani and Amit Shah conducted the elections as Returning officer and Deputy Returning Officer respectively.
