  • As the country’s busiest and best journalists are putting on the final shine to their suits and shoes to receive their RedInk Awards on Friday 18th May, at the NCPA’s Jamshed Bhaba Theatre, the Mumbai Press Club is putting together a post-mortem that is both urgent and important for every journalist. The evening will see a high power panel discuss the issue of: Is there a business in News Media?”

The panel that will debate the issue includes Vijay Darda, Chairman, Lokmat Group, N. Ram, Chairman, The Hindu Group, Raghav Bahl, Founder & Chairman, Quintillion Media, Anant Goenka, Executive Director, The Indian Express Group and Samir PatilFounder & CEO, Scroll Media. Senior Journalist and Founder of IndiaSpend.Org Govindraj Ethiraj will anchor the panel discussion.

On the Awards front, Yadu Joshi of Lokmat and Chaitanya Marpakwar of Mumbai Mirror have been adjudged as RedInk Mumbai Star Reporters for their extensive investigative reporting on Mumbai which has forced the government to change its rules.

The RedInk Award for 'A Media Start-up That Is Making a Difference' has been given to IndiaSpend.org, for its initiative in developing data journalism in India. Reporting and analysis by the website has encouraged transparency in government policy, and it has become an important and reliable source of information for both individual journalists and news platforms.

After the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) gave us a hit at last year’s Awards night, we are hoping for a repeat with the ‘Soul Yatra’ band of Merlin and Rhys that will perform a set of Holly-bolly classics to keep your feet tapping.

The RedInk Awards for Journalism are being bestowed on veteran Journalism Sir William Mark Tully for Lifetime Achievement, and on Faye D’Souza, Executive Editor of Mirror Now, as ‘Journalist of the year’. Apart from these two awards, the Redink Awards for Excellence in Journalism are given in 13 other categories to 32 journalists for meritorious work in TV, print and digital formats. These awards are given through competitive entries that are curated and judged by distinguished juries in each category.

The RedInk Awards, the only national recognition for good journalism instituted by a professional body, have been created to raise the bar of news and feature writing in India and to encourage fair play and high ethical standards in media.
