Weekend in Mumbai's wilderness

The Mumbai Press Club and Satpuda Foundation in association with the Sanjay Gandhi National Park organised a two-day workshop for journalists - Know Your Wildlife.

On 26-27 May, journalists  and media practitioners spent the weekend in the wilderness and had several rounds of discussions.

Additional Chief Secretary Mr Pravin Pardeshi, Chief Conservator of Forests and Director of SGNP, Mr Anwar Ahmed, founder of Satpuda Foundation Mr Kishor Rithe, veteran environmental activist Mr Debi Goenka, naturalist Mr  Shardul Bajikar, wetlands and mangrove expert Mr Vivek Kulkarni, conservation expert Mr Mandar Pingle, budding naturalist Mr Nikit Surve were among those who addressed us.

Special thanks to Assistant Conservator of Forest Mr Mohan Naikwadi and Superintendent Mr SB Deore for facilitating visits to the Leopard Rescue Centre, Lion Safari and Tiger Safari.

Veteran journalist and archaeologist Mr Vinayak Parab took the group around the historic Kanheri caves and made a presentation.

On behalf of managing committee, Secretary Dharmendra Jore and members Lata Mishra and Mrityunjay Bose attended the event.
